But, like any other material, if you try to make it too thin, too light, or design/assemble it poorly, the durability will suffer. Some of you will remember the days of police holsters being filled with aluminum framed S&W M-39s and M-59s. It didn't take long until the finishes started to chip off. I have 1200+ rounds through my 1911SC and it shows very little wear so far.
